Hainan, China: Alem Gereziher, an 800m and 1500m specialist, claimed her first marathon victory at the 2024 Hainan Danzhou Marathon on December 15, 2024, marking a significant milestone in her career.
Gereziher crossed the finish line with a time of 2:39:18, showcasing her growing strength in long-distance racing. Her win in Danzhou adds a prestigious international title to Ethiopia’s renowned distance running legacy.
The marathon, which attracted 18,000 participants, highlighted the rising popularity of running events in China. The course, winding through downtown Danzhou, offered a mix of urban scenery and challenging stretches, testing runners’ endurance and determination.
