Biography
Misgana Wakuma Fekansa is an Ethiopian race walker who has rapidly emerged as one of Africa’s leading athletes in the discipline. His competitive journey began around 2020 after moving to Addis Ababa, where he balanced his education with various jobs before an unexpected opportunity introduced him to race walking. His natural talent, determination, and rapid progression soon propelled him onto the international stage.
Representing Ethiopia at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, Misgana delivered an outstanding 6th-place finish in the men’s 20km race walk. His impressive international record also includes African Games gold, two African Championship titles, and a historic silver medal at the World Athletics Race Walking Team Championships in Brasília. With that performance, he became the first African male athlete to win a medal at the championships, recording the highest-ever finish by an African man in the competition’s history.
From an unexpected introduction to race walking to becoming an Olympian, multiple African champion, and global medalist, Misgana continues to break new ground for Ethiopia and Africa while competing among the world’s elite.
