Venice, Italy. Defending champion Birtukan Birhanu delivered a strong performance at this year’s Wizz Air Venice Marathon, finishing in 4th place.
Despite a highly competitive women’s field. Birhanu, who won the 2024 edition of the race, crossed the finish line with a time 2:31:24, demonstrating consistency and resilience on one of Europe’s most scenic but challenging marathon courses.
Birhanu stayed with the lead pack through the early stages, passing the halfway mark alongside the top contenders. However, a decisive surge around the 30-kilometer point created separation among the front runners. While she was unable to reclaim her title this year, Birhanu maintained strong form to secure a top-four finish.
